Education
Contribution to Millennium Development Goals:
- Goal 3 - Achieve universal primary education
- Goal 4 - Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women - This goal aims to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005, and at all levels by 2015
FOL is committed to the achievement of these education goals.
Education Bursaries
FOL
Ireland supports the education (primary, secondary and university)
of the children in Bethel Children's Home. Some of the children
have already started university education, and more continue to
strive for it.
We
have also a bursary fund for people in the communities where we
work to apply for education. At the moment we are supporting several
students in nursing pharmacy, carpentary, skills based training, Secondary School, and Primary School. We hope to increase this fund
in 2008.
Adult Literacy
FOL supports several Adult Literacy groups in the villages in which we work. These are run by local people who have been trained as Literacy Instructors by FOL.
Health Clubs
FOL works in local schools on education programmes on HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Hygiene and Water. THese programmes were originally developed as part of the Harambee 2005 project and have continued since. FOL has a partnership with the Ministry of Education Londiani Division, and hopes to further this partnership in the future.
