Londiani Londiani is located 220kms North West of Nairobi. Londiani is a town, but also a Division in the Kipkelion District. It is here that the Bethel Children's Home, and Bethel Schools are located. The home is run by Lucille Kirui who is the principal of the local school. The home looks after orphaned children aged between 3 months and 18 years. Currently there are 70 orphans in the home. Many of the children are AIDS orphans where both their parents and some family members have died of AIDS. Many of the children in the home come from Ndubusat/Kebeneti are which is an area approximately 40km from Londiani. However there is no permanent road to Kebeneti and so it can take up to 3 hours to travel there. If the weather is bad the road becomes totally impassable. The nearest hospital is in Kericho, up to 2 hours away, but because of the road many people, especially women die on the way to the hospital. A lot of the deaths are preventable with proper medical treatment. Many women die during child birth as the facilities don't exist in Kibeneti for proper maternity care. |
