2005 in Brief
There
have been two project sites - Londiani and Ndubusat. Londiani is
situated 220kms north west of Nairobi and Ndubusast is situated
about 35km west of Londiani.
Londiani

Water
Tank Project
12
water tanks were installed in the nearby village of Lelsothet. These
are community water tanks and will allow the community to have clean
easily accessible water for many years to come.
Children's
Summer Camp
A
Summer Camp was organised and ran for the 62 children in the Bethel
Faith Home and Training Centre. Various games, songs, crafts, music
and sports were organised over 2 weeks for all the children. The
camp ended with a concert for the local community involving all
the children.
Computer
Classes
Computer
classes were held for the women of Bethel Home and the children.
Computers were donated by various firms in Ireland and shipped to
Kenya earlier this year.
Painting
Lots
of painting of the local school, home and its surroundings was completed
by all teams throughout the Summer.
Youth
Club
A
Youth Club was organised and run in the evenings for the older children
in the home. Topics covered included HIV/AIDS, Crafts, Music. The
club was a huge success and very popular with the older children.
Mini
Clinics
Mini
clinic education on HIV/AIDs, Nutrition and Hygiene was organised
and ran in several local schools in Londiani.
Gardening
There
is a tree nursery in the home in Londiani, and all teams spent time
weeding the trees to allow them to grow. The Manageress of the home
was very grateful for the work completed.
Peer
Education
Peer
education courses on HIV/AIDS were organised for various women's
and men's groups in Londiani. 88 men and women graduated from these
programmes, and will now continue the education with other groups.
Literacy
Programme
A
literacy programme was run for some women and men who work in the
Bethel Faith Home, but who did not know how to read or write English.
This programme was very successful, and we hope to continue similar
programmes in the future.
Ndubusat
Project Site
Water
Project
The
aim of the water project is to bring clean running water to several
tanks in the village. In the future we hope to pipe it to further
villages in this area.
The
water pipes have now been brought 5km to the Tinderet forest in
Ndubusat. All materials for the water tanks and dam have been delivered
to the various sites, and work has begun. Soon the community in
Ndubusat will have clean water.
Hospital
Project
The
hospital is now up to roof level and work has begun on the inside
of the building. The toilets and shower building is also under construction.
Beds are been made in Nairobi and will be delivered once completed.
Malaria
Nets
In
total over 600 homes benefited frmo our malaria net project. We
hope to continue this over the coming months in the areas where
people are especially vunerable to malaria
Ndubusat
Primary School
The
school has been transformed totally since work began few months
ago. All windows and floors are now complete. Each school block
has veranda, footpath and steps to each classroom. The plastering
of the inside walls has now started and once this is completed,
painting will start. Desks, and cupboards are being made by a local
carpenter. The pupils and teachers are very excited about their
new school.
Peer
Education
The
Peer Education project will continue for many years to come. We
have now several trainers in both project sites, both men and women,
who are willing to train and spread the education. It will be co-ordinated
by Anna Mainek who lives in Lelsothet village.
Mini
Clinics
The
mini clinic program was also hugely successful. All schools who
were part of this programme have expressed their thanks and gratitude.
We donated all teaching materials to the local schools so that education
can continue.
Summer
Camp
The
Summer Camp was a big hit among the children and adults in Ndubusat.
Every day 300 children came to learn songs, crafts, games, sports
etc.Even the adults and teachers joined in some of the games!
The
project has been a huge success, and plans for the future are already
being made.
