Kenya Ball 2008 The party of the year! Saturday, 12th April saw 330 people arrive in the Rochestown Hotel, Cork for the Friends of Londiani annual Kenya Ball. The night began with a VIP reception for our special Guests - The Lord Mayor and Mayoress of Cork - Councillor Donal Counihan and his wife, Mary; The Kenyan Ambassador to Ireland - Mrs Catherine Muigai Mwangi and her husband; The Kenyan Director of FOL Kenya, Mrs Anna Mainek and her husband Wilson; The CEO of Cork Chamber of Commerce, Mr Conor Healy and his wife, Margaret; and Benjamin and Stephen Cheruiyot who work in the Ndubusat Medical Clinic, Kenya. The Lord Mayor opened the ball and spoke of the current conflict in Kenya. He encouraged all present to continue supporting FOL in their work. The Kenyan Ambassador spoke of the wonderful hospitality she had received in Ireland to date, and praised the Directors and volunteers of FOL for their work in her country. Anna Mainek spoke of the difference FOL is making in the lives of people in Kenya, and asked the Irish to continue their partnership with Kenya. Maria Kidney, and Martin Ballantyne presented the highlights of the year for FOL which ended with the Harambee 2007 volunteers joining together and signing "Something Inside So Strong". Music was provided by the Boogie Band, and the dancing continued into the small hours of Sunday morning. The atmosphere was electirc, and as usual the Kenya Ball remains on the top of the social calendar in Cork. Thank you all for your continued support |
